The Wildflower

DELICATE YET RESILIENT,
A WILDFLOWER AT HEART.

Oh Wildflowers, where do I even begin.
Undeniably beautiful, fragrant, poetic, and gentle - you are.

You stand for Resilience, the way you find a way to grow and acclimate even in the harshest climates.

You solely rely on nature to thrive, a wild thing you are.

You awaken all of my senses and make me feel seen.

You make me take deeper breaths and take it all in.

You remind me of summer, sweet memories you sure bring.

Wildflowers are undeniably irresistible for many reasons. The gentle way they move in the alpine breeze, their delicate petals and poetic colors all contribute to their magic.

The more I studied these beautiful specimens, the more it became clear Wildflowers serve so much more to our beautiful earth.

For some, it’s family traditions that bring fond memories of a wildflower, for some it’s medicine for healing during the winter months, for others it’s a moment to remember with careful collecting. The more I dove deeper into what wildflowers mean to us, the more I realized that that’s precisely what makes them so special - we all have a unique connection to them.

More beautifully, wildflowers serve as a crucial part to our ecosystem. They provide a critical habitat for bees, butterflies and other pollinators with food sources throughout the seasons. A significant contribution native flowers made to modern medicine are the antibiotic properties contained in their compounds.

As you explore the way the Wildflower Collection was created, I want you to think of how wildflowers grow in the wild. They are completely reliant on nature to grow and thrive, making them a true Resilient Beauty.

This Abstract Painting Collection is created entirely with nature. Each painting uses foraged berries, dried flower petals, natural earth pigments and reused food material that has been crafted into artistic ink/paint for capturing nature in its truest essence.

The beauty of these pieces is the material itself. As each handcrafted color of nature moves and meets another, a new moment is created that feels free and organic. As I am letting nature dictate the course of each painting, I am guided to practice patience, embracing quiet moments and intuitively trusting the process.

My deepest hope is you find connection to these abstract Wildflower paintings.

As we connect to nature, we are more connected to ourselves. We are rooted in the place that we belong.

It’s that wild, imperfect beauty that keeps us wanting more.

WILDFLOWER COLLECTION

collection insights -

Inspiration: Resilient Beauty of Nature, Wildflowers serving as medicine for our hearts and bodies, slowing down and soaking up each moment, simplicity and calm, family/generational traditions, creating fond memories, appreciating the magic wildflowers bring to our ecosystem.

Process: Most of the painting materials were foraged in Alaska and hand crafted in my kitchen, and all are handmade in the most pure and natural way. For this collection, my main focus was to incorporate floral inks along with my favorites. I love the softness of the colors and they way they dance together in harmony.

Natural Inks: after flower petals/berries/plant material is cleaned and dried it goes into the boiling pot. Then the process of color extraction begins (most cooking time varies between 1 hour to 4 days), the mixture gets strained and a natural binder/preservative is added. Experimentation and color development of this color palette began early 2019.

All color combinations include these handmade natural inks:
- foraged Alaska blueberries (Hatcher Pass + Powerline Pass areas)
- foraged Alaska fireweed leaves (Powerline Pass)
- Floral Inks: Alaska Peony leaves, Safflower leaves, Marigold Leaves, Rose Petal Leaves
- avocado stone ink
- hibiscus tea ink
- madder root ink

Natural Earth Pigments: derived from the earth, made into powder form and mixed with either a water-based binder or oil binder. Experimentation and color development of this color palette began early 2019.

All paintings include a combination of handmade inks and earth pigments.

Framing: Each stretched canvas is framed in a beautiful maple floating frame making it the perfect compliment to highlight nature’s beauty.

My Passion: Three years ago, I made it my goal to create art in the most natural and sustainable way possible. Through many endless days researching, experimenting, failing and showing up again - I am beyond proud to present the “Wildflower Collection” to you. The textures, colors, movements of each of these pieces have so much depth and feeling. The way the colors work together to become one leaves me truly speechless. I hope each piece that you decide to invest in becomes part of your home, your daily routines, grows with you and reminds you of the precious beauty around us.
